The Hong Kong World Sixes 2017 got underway at the Kowloon Cricket Club in Hong Kong. 12 matches were scheduled to be played on the opening day of the tournament with the first encounter between hosts Hong Kong and South Africa. The 5-over, 6 wickets a side match unfolded on expected lines, the Hong Kong side managed to post 95 runs in their quota of overs and it proved little challenging for the Proteas as they nailed it with 4 wickets and 2 balls to spare.

As the day progressed bigger teams like Australia found it difficult to beat rather weaker opponents. The Bangladesh team which comprises of the U19 cricketers from the country has put up a decent show and if they continue to do well, they might as well land up a spot in the final four.

Pakistan played 3 won all the matches and have 6 points in the kitty. South Africa having won two and lost a game hold 4 points against their name. These two teams from Group A look certain to qualify for the semi-finals that will be played tomorrow.

In Group B, NZ Select have played two games and won both and stand strong with 4 points. Bangladeshi team has played three and won two games to make a case for themselves. In this group Australia is also in contention though they have played three and won just one against NZ.
