Indian batsman Rohit Sharma made into the national playing eleven for the Sydney Test against Australia and he replaced Mayank Agarwal, who only had 31 runs under his belt in the first two matches. A lot was expected of him since as a Test opener, the 33-year-old batsman showed his class, especially in the home games against South Africa and Bangladesh back in 2019.

However, due to injuries he couldn’t play the two Tests in New Zealand and also missed out from the Adelaide and Melbourne Tests. In the third Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy at the SCG, Rohit opened the batting with Shubman Gill after Steve Smith’s 131 lifted the Aussies to 338 in the first innings. Sharma got off the mark in the very first ball he faced, much to his relief.

Rohit Sharma gets out after an impressive start

He got going when he punched Josh Hazlewood for a four behind square on the off-side. A couple of overs later, he fetched another four off the pacer’s bowling. After a bit of a dry run, Rohit decided to take on Nathan Lyon in the 16th over of the Indian innings. To start with, he deposited Lyon over the long-on region for a six and followed it up with a four through the fine leg position.

Rohit, without a shred of a doubt, was looking at his ominous best. But against the run of play, he perished to Hazlewood in the final ball of the 27th over. Hazlewood, who was celebrating his 30th birthday, bowled a full-length delivery and enticed the batsman to go after it. Rohit went for a shot down the ground, but he couldn’t find any timing and gave the bowler a simple caught-and-bowled

Rohit managed 26 runs off 77 runs with three fours and one six and he got out after putting on 70 runs for the opening wicket with Gill. However, he managed to give India some sort of foundation with his short stay in the middle. In the meantime, the Indian fans aren’t happy after Rohit got out. The netizens trolled him for throwing away his start after doing the hard work.
