Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), on Wednesday, turned the tables on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with some superb game plan. They managed to defend 167 after opting to bat first in Abu Dhabi and registered their third win of the season. However, despite putting in a decent performance, the team must be worried with their all-rounder Andre Russell’s batting form this year.

Last year, Russell complained about not getting enough time in the middle and was in the form of his life as well. Accordingly, this time around, he has been promoted to five every now and then. But the returns are poor and Andre Russell is getting out early putting his team a bit under pressure. He was sent to bat at six against CSK as well but the Caribbean mustered only two runs before getting out to Shardul Thakur.

The 32-year-old also realises that he is not batting well at the moment. But he is confident of regaining his form soon going ahead in the season. “I’m still confident (about finding form with the bat) and these things happen in cricket and I’m still working to find my way,” he said while speaking to the commentators after the match.

Andre Russell delighted to contribute with the ball

However, Andre Russell has been contributing with the ball to the team. He has been given the role to bowl at the death and has picked five wickets so far in 10 overs bowled in four innings. His economy of 8 is also decent considering the way runs are being scored in the last five overs this season. Even he is enjoying the role and is delighted to contribute to the team in any possible way.

“That’s the beauty of this game. Didn’t go well with the bat and I made up with the ball today. Big moment bowling the pressure overs and I’m happy. Cross-seamers are the danger balls on this surface and once it hits the seam, it kicks. CSK bowlers used that a lot and I made sure I executed it well when I came onto bowl,” Andre Russell said after delivering for KKR yet again against CSK.

However, the all-rounder will be happier if he returns to his best with the bat which will in turn assist KKR as well in terms of posting or chasing big totals.
