Veteran Bangladesh wicketkeeper and star batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has brushed off the chances of him leading the national team from the front. Mushfiqur led the Beximco Dhaka side in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup, and since then, the talks of him leading the national side started catching fire. His skills and qualities can make him a successful skipper any day, but the player has stated himself that he is disinterested in the job.

Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan stated that the wicket-keeping batsman is not interested in stepping into the shoe of the captain. Therefore, three teams will be Mahmudullah XI, Tamim XI, and Nazmul XI. Mushfiqur would be part of any one of the teams but will not lead the side. When he led the Dhaka side, it was his first job in a leadership role. He has cleared the air now by stating that he isn’t open to taking such roles in the national team.

“Mushfiqur is not ready to take up the captaincy, and he has informed us,” stated BCB President as quoted by Times Now.

I’m not interested in leading the national team: Mushfiqur Rahim

“I feel there is no chance of leading the national side. They (BCB) feel that there are some young players, and if they are given a chance (captaincy) in the future, it can be beneficial for them. In the national team and in the other teams, there are a lot of young players, and since I’m not interested in leading the national team, I feel they should be given the chance,” stated Rahim.

Rahim states that more young players should be given the opportunity at the moment, which will further help the national team for future assignments. As far as Bangabandhu T20 Cup was concerned, franchises thought him as best suited for the role, and that is why he took the responsibility.

The 33-year-old cricketer plied his trade in BCB President’s Cup 2020 for Najmul XI under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto. He denied the chance to lead the time but took the role with Beximco Dhaka, which caused much stir in the Bangladesh cricket fraternity at that time.
