The COVID-19 outbreak has compelled the world to come to a standstill as more than 2 lakh deaths have been recorded so far across the globe. The pandemic has taken a toll on every individual and most governments have currently enforced lockdowns to tackle the situation. The outbreak has also disrupted sporting action and all major tournaments have been called off in the wake of the pandemic.

The much-awaited IPL 2020, which was initially slated to start from March 29, has also been postponed indefinitely to tackle the spread of COVID-19. Considering the current situation, the resumption of sporting activities looks bleak at the moment. Amid the lockdown, cricketers are left with no choice but to spend their time indoors while spending time with their family. Team India, who last played against South Africa, will also be eager to brace the field after the pandemic subsides.

While interacting through an Instagram live with Mohammed Shami, India opener Rohit Sharma said that he will go to Bengaluru for training and batting practice after the coronavirus lockdown ends. The swashbuckling opener also revealed that he hasn’t touched the bat since his injury in February.

‘We should get more time for batting’: Rohit Sharma

Both Shami and Rohit discussed their life during the quarantine and also expressed their desire to get some practice before stepping on the field. Shami also revealed that Ashish Nehra had told him about the training camp after the coronavirus lockdown ends.

“Ashish Bhai was saying that as soon as the lockdown opens, we will set up a training camp. Along with fitness, you will also know that if anyone has any injury,” Shami told Rohit during the Instagram live session.

Rohit had suffered a calf-injury during New Zealand tour and was to mark his return to competitive cricket in IPL 2020. However, due to the postponement of the tournament, the right-hander is desperate to get back on the field. Rohit revealed that he needs to focus on his batting skills as he hasn’t been in touch with the game since a couple of months.

“We should get more time for batting. I was already injured and returned to Mumbai even before you came. I was injured in February and I have not caught a bat since then. I’m guessing it will take two to three months to play. Need to focus on batting skills,” Rohit told Shami.

“In Mumbai, I do not think anything will happen, and that’s why I will go to there will be Banglore for training and batting practice after the lockdown ends,” Rohit added.
