The nation was stunned. India had failed to chase 240 in a World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. MS Dhoni getting run-out in the 49th over shattered the hopes for the Indian team. There were grim faces in one camp understandably and New Zealand were elated for making it to their second consecutive World Cup final. Though India’s dream of winning the title is over, for Aamir Khan, the Bollywood superstar, the team had won the World Cup after topping the points table.

India ended the league stage with 15 points to their name and won seven out of nine matches. They only lost to England while their encounter against the Kiwis was washed out. Virat Kohli‘s men were a team to beat and it literally looked like they will go all the way. But their winning run was brought to a screeching halt at the Old Trafford.

Aamir Khan, however, feels that India just had a bad day and it can happen to any team in the tournament. But he lamented the rain which took the game into the reserve day. India had the momentum when the play stopped on Tuesday and on resumption, though they restricted the opposition to a decent total, the conditions had spiced up for the bowlers.

Proud of our team

Aamir Khan consoled Virat Kohli and the team as he felt that it was just a bad day at the office for them. He also reiterated the fact that he was proud of the boys for the effort they put throughout the tournament. “Hard luck Virat. Just wasn’t our day today. For me, India had already won the world cup when we qualified for the semis at the top of the list as the no 1 team. Well played guys, throughout the tournament.

“I just wish it hadn’t rained yesterday… the result might have been different. But well done. Proud of our team,” Aamir Khan wrote in his consoling tweet for Team India. Nevertheless, as Aamir said, it was gallant effort the boys in blue and even the team should be proud of their efforts.
