It’s an open secret that Sanju Samson has loads of potential on his shoulders. He has flourished with the bat in hand in the going Indian Premier League (IPL), representing the Rajasthan Royals (RR). In fact, it was his half-centuries against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), that scripted victories for his team, taking them to the top of the points table.
Apart from his batting, Samson is also safe as houses when it comes to fielding. He gave a glimpse of his stupendous catching during RR’s match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday, September 30 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The youngster took a stupendous catch to dismiss Pat Cummins, who was starting to look ominous, scoring 12 off 10.
Sanju Samson takes a blinder
Cummins tried to hook a slower-ball from Tom Curran, but mistimed it altogether. Samson wasn’t in the greatest of positions to catch the ball. He ran to his right in an awkward angle and had to leap above his head. Sanju, in the end, caught the ball, but rammed his head on the ground. Thereafter, the medical team had a chat with him and luckily, he avoided any injury scare.
In the meantime, former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was awestruck by Samson’s efforts. The Master Blaster, earlier, appreciated Nicholas Pooran for his superhuman efforts at the boundary and he had words of appreciation for Sanju as well. He also recalled one of his own catches during India’s 1992 World Cup match against the West Indies.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Brilliant catch by @IamSanjuSamson! I know how much it hurts when you bang your head like this on the ground. I experienced it in the 1992 World Cup in our match against the WI when I took a catch. #IPL2020 #RRvKKR,”

Samson didn’t have the greatest of days with the bat against the Knights. He started with a four on the on-side with the wristy flick, but couldn’t carry. He tried to pull Shivam Mavi and holed out to Sunil Narine. He was the second wicket to fall for the Royals after Cummins dismissed Steve Smith. The Royals lost the match in Dubai by 37 runs.
