25-year-old Sanju Samson is going through a purple patch at the moment. The Rajasthan Royals’ wicketkeeper-batsman has delivered exceedingly well with his willow this season. In their opening IPL 2020 fixture against Chennai Super Kings, Samson stitched an explosive 32-ball 74 to steer RR past the 200-run mark. The Royals eventually defended the total and Samson bagged the Player of the Match award.

The youngster flaunted his worth yet again in the next match against Kings XI Punjab. While chasing a colossal 224-run target, Samson rose to the occasion and slammed 42-ball 85 as RR ultimately clinched the win in a dramatic fashion.

The Kerala stalwart performances in the first two matches led to many fans compare him with MS Dhoni. After the departure of Dhoni from the international scene, many fans are now rooting for Samson to take up his role in the Indian side.

I only focus on my game, what I can do: Sanju Samson

After Samson’s recent exploits, Congress MP from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram tagged him the next MS Dhoni. But Samson, quite like former India opener Gautam Gambhir, ruled out the comparisons.

“I am sure that no one can and no one should try to play like him. It’s not at all easy to play like MS Dhoni, so leave that aside. I never think of playing like MS Dhoni. He is a legend of Indian cricket, a legend of the game,” Samson said. “I only focus on my game, what I can do, how I can do it best and how I can win matches,” the Keralite added.

Samson highlighted that his sole focus right now is to perform well in the IPL without thinking to attract the attention of national selectors. He said, “I maybe, I maybe not. The only thing I know is I am in good form, my only dream is to win matches for my team, any team I play. My focus is on the IPL right now.”

The youngster had recently revealed how a gym interaction with Virat Kohli had changed his perspective about his career and objectives.

“When I was in the gym with the Indian team I met Virat bhai, I keep on asking him different things. When he asked me how many years you are going to play and I said 10, he told me that me ”then give everything to these 10 years and you can have your favourite food from Kerala after that. So, I became really dedicated to giving my best for the next 10-12 years,” said the RR star, who has been their top performer so far.
