Rohit Sharma has hit the most number of sixes across all formats this year. He has a total of 64 maximums to his name in 2017 and that’s a world record in terms of the sixes hit by a batsman in international Cricket in a single calendar year. He has also got himself to no. 3 in the list of all-time best six hitters for India with a tally of 257 sixes.

MS Dhoni with 337 sixes and Sachin Tendulkar with 264 sixes are the only two players ahead of him now. These stats easily qualify Rohit as a six hitting machine, but the hitman, as his fans fondly call him, reckons he is still only a touch player and not the power player that most of the other six hitters in the world are.

I am the not the most powerful batsman in the world

According to Rohit, he is well aware of the fact that he is not the most powerful batsman in the world. So he doesn’t try to hit the ball too hard or muscle it over the fence. Whenever he goes for a big one, he puts his emphasis on timing rather than power, “I definitely don’t have so much power. I rely a lot on timing the ball more than anything else. I know my strengths and my weakness.” Rohit remarked according to quotes on Deccan Chronicle, while talking to the press after the second T20I game against Sri Lanka in Indore.

Speaking more about his batting style, Rohit said he always looks to manipulate the field and aims his shots in those areas of the ground which are vacant. The 30-year old believes when a batsman looks to score only in a particular region of the ground, he gets predictable and he doesn’t want himself to be predictable at any stage of his innings.

“I want to score all around the park and not just one area. You can’t just hit in one area. You become predictable then. It’s always important to score runs all over the field and that’s my strength.” Rohit concluded.
