The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided against renewing the contract of the head coach Mickey Arthur and his coaching staff. Grant Flower was the part of the coaching staff as he worked as the batting coach of the team for a decent period of time. Expectedly, he was disappointed at not being retained and also accused some of the ex-Pakistan cricketers of backstabbing.

However, he also had some words of praises for the players of the team and handpicked Babar Azam as the best Pakistan cricketer he’s coached ever. Flower has now showered praises on the opener Imam-ul-Haq and termed him as one of the most improved batsmen during his tenure. Imam has already scored seven centuries and six half-centuries in 36 ODIs for Pakistan and will be hoping to continue in the same vein in the near future.

He was the second-highest run-getter for Pakistan in the recently concluded 2019 World Cup. He scored 305 runs in eight innings at an average of 38.12 and also was one of the only two centurions for his team in the event. Grant Flower though cautioned Imam of not getting too far ahead of himself to have a good international career going forward.

He’s very driven

“Babar Azam’s the obvious one. But also Imam-ul-Haq, I think he’s really improved. You’re going to see a lot more of him because he’s very driven. As long as he doesn’t get too far ahead of himself, I think he’s going to have a really good career,” Grant Flower said in an interview to ESPNCricinfo.

Flower though wasn’t pleased with the politics happening in the PCB and clearly mentioned that he will not miss it. “It was a nice thing to see the passion of the players, their natural flair and their love of the game because they’ve got so much to gain by playing for Pakistan and so much to lose by not playing. A lot of the politics that happens within the TV channels, the journalists and some of the politics in the PCB itself. I won’t miss those, certainly,” the former Zimbabwe cricketer further stated.
