Nathan Lyon emerged as the hero of day one of the second Test between India and Australia as he picked up 8 wickets to bundle India out at a low total of 189. The Indian batsmen were left clueless as the off-spinner bowled tremendously at Bengaluru smashing quite a number of records.

He dismissed the likes of Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara scripting India’s downfall giving away just 50 runs. KL Rahul was the only batsman who could spend some time on the pitch but missed out on a hundred narrowly. Rahul was also picked up by Lyon who enjoyed the best performance of his career surpassing his previous best of 7/94.

After a performance of sheer class, Lyon spoke about his source of inspiration which helped him get the best out of himself. He also told that he bowled about 1200 deliveries at the preparatory camp in Dubai ahead of the subcontinent tour.

“I don’t know what to say. I watched a lot of Ashwin tapes, but I stuck to my strength of getting bounce. I bowled about 1200 balls in Dubai. We worked hard as a bowling group. We discussed how to bowl in India, the toughest place to tour for us,” Lyon said.

“That last hour was big for me, I had my pads on so this is the first time I have smiled. I worked a lot with John Davison in the lead-up to the Big Bash League (BBL) games, used to bowl an hour every day. He can take a lot of credit as well. There were some cracks there, and I was trying to hit some,” he further added.

The Aussie now has the best record by any foreign player on Indian soil while only four Indians have been able to produce a better performance than him on home soil. Nathan (58) also eclipsed Brett Lee (53) as the bowler who has the most number of wickets against India.
