Many had questioned his selection in the World Cup squad. He didn’t play in the XI until the Sri Lanka clash. But Ravindra Jadeja kept on performing in the field whenever he got a chance and when picked in the team, the all-rounder made the most of the opportunity. He literally reignited India’s hopes after coming in to bat at 92/6 and played a valiant 77-run knock off 59 deliveries. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to take the team over the line and India were knocked out of the World Cup.

When all the batsmen, including New Zealand’s, struggled to score at a fair clip, Jadeja came out and ripped apart the bowlers from the word go. Rather he had a point to prove after Sanjay Manjrekar called him a ‘bits and pieces’ player. The argument got the best out of Ravindra Jadeja and he literally went on to play the knock of his life.

He was a hero even on the field returning as the most economical bowler for India (1/34) and then affected a sensational run-out to send back Ross Taylor on the second day of the match. Not to forget, Jadeja also took a brilliant catch of Tom Latham in the very next over.

Sport has taught me to keep on rising

Ravindra Jadeja was not even in the selection frame until the Asia Cup last year. The way he made a comeback has been admirable and looks set to play for a few more years now. Heartbroken after the loss, the 30-year-old took to Twitter to thank his fans for all the love and support and assured them to give his best every time he takes the field. Jadeja also cleared that he will never give up and cricket has taught him to keep going.

“Sports has taught me to keep on rising after every fall & never to give up. Can’t thank enough each & every fan who has been my source of inspiration. Thank you for all your support. Keep inspiring & I will give my best till my last breath. Love you all,” Jadeja wrote in his tweet.
