The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently wrote a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), pertaining to adequate security in the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. The concerns sparked in the wake of the terrorist attack, carried out by Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad in Jammu and Kashmir last month that accounted for the lives of 40 CRPF jawans.

However, the apex cricket board has assured that its members would have a robust security plan for the mega event, which is scheduled to get underway on Thursday, May 30. David Richardson, the CEO  of the ICC, said the same in a statement following the board meetings in Dubai.

We will of course uplift our security commitment

“As you would expect for a global sporting event, the ICC, in partnership with the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) has a robust security plan in place for the men’s Cricket World Cup. We work closely with the authorities in our host countries to ensure that the safety of players, officials and fans is a priority,” Richardson mentioned.

“Should those authorities raise the threat level of the event based on intelligence, we will, of course, uplift our security commitment as appropriate. We will continue to work with the ECB and our members throughout the build-up to and during the tournament to keep everyone abreast of the situation,” the chief executive remarked.

The BCCI also urged the ICC to sever all cricketing ties with Pakistan, but the ICC has turned down their request. The nation of India has had different opinions surrounding the World Cup match against Pakistan on Sunday, June 16 at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Even as many believe that Pakistan should be boycotted, a few of them reckon that playing and beating them would be the best step.

The Pulwama Attacks on February 14 has only soured the relationship between the arch-rivals and quite expectantly, the horrendous incident was condemned by many.
