Pressure has got the better of many greats in the past. It was the same for Jason Roy as well. After having a wonderful tournament, the England opener pushed at a delivery from Matt Henry. To his misfortune, it found his edge and that carried to the keeper. Roy scored 17 off 20 balls and hit three fours before he got out. On the last ball of the Super Over, he effected a brilliant run-out to win his team the game.

Jonny Bairstow – 4/10

Jonny Bairstow made an important contribution on a track where stroke-making wasn’t easy against the new ball. He was a little cautious and mustered 36 runs from 55 balls before Lockie Ferguson disrupted his stumps. Bairstow hit 7 fours in his innings.

Joe Root – 2/10

Conditions weren’t really favourable when Joe Root walked out to bat. His plan was to get through a few overs and then capitalise later on. However, the English Test skipper failed to execute that. Root crawled to 7 runs from 30 balls before he edged one to the keeper of the bowling of Colin de Grandhomme.

Eoin Morgan – 3/10

Eoin Morgan had an extended stay out in the middle and wasn’t able to score runs as freely. The pressure clearly got the better of him as he tried to break free and attempted a big shot. The ball didn’t carry too long and Lockie Ferguson ran in from the boundary to take an extraordinary running catch.

Ben Stokes – 10/10

Ben Stokes played an absolute gem of a knock in this match. The same player because of whom England lost the T20 World Cup in 2016 won it for his team this time around. Stokes played a lot of dots initially and was cautious. Since Buttler was playing well at the other end, he had the luxury to do so. Then, he accelerated towards the end and remained unbeaten on 84 off 98 balls. He was good enough in the super over as well and with the ball, he conceded 20 runs in 3 overs.

Jos Buttler – 8.5/10

Jos Buttler was out of form throughout the tournament but rose up to the occasion when his team needed him the most. The wicketkeeper-batsman played a sensible knock under great pressure. He scored 59 runs at almost run-a-ball that helped England get back into the game. While he’d have liked to finish the game for his team, his contribution was massive in the final.

Chris Woakes – 8.5/10

Chris Woakes continued with his good form from the last game and picked up yet another three-wicket haul. He trapped Martin Guptill early in the innings. Woakes then followed it up by picking up the wickets of Tom Latham and Colin de Grandhomme finishing with figures of 9-0-37-3.

Liam Plunkett – 9/10

Liam Plunkett was another bowler from the England team who had an extraordinary outing. He was brilliant through the middle overs and got the big wicket of Kane Williamson. He even dismissed Henry Nicholls who was looking dangerous and got the better of James Neesham later to end with a three-wicket haul.

Jofra Archer – 8/10

Jofra Archer will be thanking the Almighty after the kind of performance he produced in this match. In the first innings, he bowled 10 overs and conceded 42 runs and picked up one wicket. He came back to bowl the super over under immense pressure. For a youngster playing his first World Cup to deliver under such high pressure was a commendable effort. He truly justified his pick in the team ahead of some experienced players.

Adil Rashid – 3/10

Adil Rashid couldn’t pick up any wickets in this match but ensured that he was economical enough. He bowled 8 overs and conceded 39 runs at an economy rate of 4.90.

Mark Wood – 5/10

Mark Wood got the big fish Ross Taylor in this match who is usually good under pressure and in testing conditions. The 29-year-old bowled out his quota of 10 overs where he conceded 49 runs and even bowled one maiden over.
