They are the hosts as well as the No.1 ranked team in the one-day format but like every other team set to take part in the upcoming ICC World Cup, England, too have their concerns over selecting the final squad. The Three Lions will play the first of their 11 games that are left before the mega event against the Windies in Barbados on Wednesday. Captain Eoin Morgan is not ready to take anything for granted in the crucial build-up period to the mega event.

Morgan said that the top rank did not make England a complacent side and they were still committed to better things. However, even though the Brits have certainly come a long way since their humiliating exit from the last World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2015 and there are several talents at their disposal to choose from, the WC hosts are particularly occupied with the issue of pacer Jofra Archer.

Archer generates some serious pace and also can hit the ball hard

Born in the Caribbeans, the 23-year-old Archer will qualify to be selected for England team next month and the selectors are trying to make it an opportunity to include the talented bowler in the WC squad. Archer is known not only for his top pace but also the ability to hit the ball down the order and he has done his reputation a favour by doing well in T20 leagues across the world. In first-class cricket, Archer has six fifties and five five-wicket hauls. Also, the management is faced with the tough question of whom to drop if Archer is eventually picked.

“I’ve played against Jofra on numerous occasions and he comes with a big reputation. That reputation is justified because he’s an extremely talented young cricketer. He’s raw but he’s performed in big tournaments around the world like the IPL and the Big Bash. As soon as he qualifies, we’ll make a decision on him and think about what direction we’re going to go in,” Morgan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

The England captain said if picking Archer ties in with everything else then he’ll have a chance. He said the young pacers’ biggest strengths are his death bowling and the pace he generates. He also reminded that England have two other bowlers who can bowl at a high pace in Liam Plunkett and Mark Wood.
