Rohit Sharma ended the league phase with a record 5th century in the tournament as he scored 103 against Sri Lanka. This was Rohit’s third consecutive century; all the three coming in the space of seven days. However, for the 3rd time in a row, he failed to add more after scoring hundred which he usually does in this format. The Indian opener hit 103 from 94 deliveries with 14 fours and two maximums. He shared a 189-run opening stand with KL Rahul to chase down the target of 265.

All the records and stats created by Rohit Sharma with his century against Sri Lanka:

1 – Rohit Sharma became the first player in World Cup to hit as many as five tons in a single edition. He went past the record held by Kumar Sangakkara with four hundreds in the 2015 edition. Sangakkara got those four tons in successive innings; the only batsman with three or more successive tons in World Cup before Rohit.

1 – Rohit is also the first player to score three hundreds in the World Cup while chasing; all the three in this edition only. No other player among the Indians has even scored more than one hundred in a CWC chase. He is also the first player with four centuries while chasing in ICC ODI tournaments (CT and CWC). Rohit’s lone Champions Trophy hundred came in the 2017 semis while chasing.

2 – Rohit is also only the 2nd player to hit three consecutive ODI centuries for India. Virat Kohli became the first to achieve this feat during the last year’s home ODI series against the Windies. Rohit is also the first player to score three consecutive ODI hundreds in England.

5 – Rohit’s five hundreds in this tournament makes him the first player to score five tons in an ODI series/tournament. He is only the 2nd player to hit five centuries in an International series/tournament. Clyde Walcott of Windies scored five hundreds during the 1955 series against Australia.

6 – The Indian opener now has six centuries in the World Cup; the joint-most by any player. Sachin Tendulkar leads the list with six tons from 44 innings while Rohit has got the same number of three-figure scores in 16 innings. Rohit is also the first opener with six CWC tons as one of the six World Cup hundreds of Tendulkar came while batting at No.4.

7 – Rohit’s seven centuries in ICC ODI tournaments are the joint-most for any player. The former Indian batting legends Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly top this list with seven hundreds apiece.

7 – Rohit has scored as many as seven centuries in ODI cricket on England soil; three more than any visiting player. In overall, only Joe Root (8) and Marcus Trescothick (8) have scored seven or more ODI tons in England before Rohit.

10 – Rohit Sharma is only the 3rd player with as many as ten centuries in successful ODI chases. Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar are the other two players who have 21 and 14 centuries respectively in the successful ODI run-chases.

13 – The Indian vice-captain now has 13 centuries while chasing in ODI cricket; the 3rd most for any player. Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar lead the list with 25 and 17 hundreds respectively.

208 – Rohit Sharma is only the 6th player to score 27 ODI centuries. He needed 208 innings for that; the 3rd fewest among the six players. Only Hashim Amla (167 inns) and Virat Kohli (169 inns) scored their 27th ton quicker than Rohit.

647 – Rohit’s 647 runs in this tournament thus far are the most by any player in an edition of World Cup prior to the knockouts. His tally is also the 2nd highest by any player in a CWC behind Sachin Tendulkar’s 673 runs in the 2003 edition and Matthew Hayden’s 659 runs in 2007.
