Rohit Sharma hardly goes after the bowlers right from the start and likes taking some time initially. But his approach was completely different in this match and he looked positive right from the first over. At one stage, he looked set to notch up another double century. He brought up his second ton of this World Cup and 24th overall but got out in the 39th over for 140 runs as he tried to play a cheeky scoop over the short fine-leg.
Virat Kohli – 8.5/10
Hardik Pandya never seemed to be in the zone with the bat in this match. He did hit a couple of fours and a six but didn’t have a comfortable stay. Howbeit, he was completely on fire with the ball in this game. After losing Bhuvneshwar Kumar early on, he had a massive job to do. Pandya didn’t disappoint and picked up two crucial wickets of Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik off consecutive deliveries.
MS Dhoni – 1/10
MS Dhoni didn’t have a great outing with the bat in this match. He went for the long hoick off just the second ball that he faced. However, the ball got slightly big on him and thus he edged that one to the keeper. Dhoni could only score 1 run in the innings. While he had a good day behind the stumps, he erred with a DRS call of Babar Azam.
Vijay Shankar – 7.5/10
Vijay Shankar couldn’t really accelerate the way he would have liked at the end of the innings. But he had a dream outing with the ball in this match. Vijay was asked to bowl the remaining two deliveries of the Bhuvneshwar Kumar over after he left the field. He responded by picking the wicket of Imam-ul-Haq the first ball that he bowled. Later, he also dismissed Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed later on.
Kedar Jadhav – 1.5/10
Towards the end of the innings, Kedar Jadhav tried hard to hasten the proceedings. However, it’s been a while since he has batted in a professional game and looked slightly rusty. Jadhav remained unbeaten on 9 runs off 8 balls and hit one boundary.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 2/10
Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled just 16 balls in the innings before he walked off the field clutching his hamstring. However, he made great use of the conditions and tested the Pakistan openers with a few great outswingers. The management would hope that it isn’t a serious injury and will want him to recover soon.
Kuldeep Yadav – 9/10
There were questions if Kuldeep Yadav would find his way into the eleven. But he put all the discussions to rest with his performance in this game. Getting through Babar Azam’s gate, who was well set, isn’t easy. But the chinaman managed to outfox one of the best batsmen Pakistan has ever produced. He also got the better of Fakhar Zaman later on and had set him up beautifully. These were two huge wickets in the context of the game and thus Kuldeep gets a high rating.
Yuzvendra Chahal – 1.5/10
Yuzvendra Chahal was quite expensive in this game. He gave away 53 runs in the 7 overs that he bowled at an economy rate of 7.60 and couldn’t pick up any wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah – 2/10
Jasprit Bumrah was great with the new ball and put several questions in the minds on the batsmen. But in the end, he went wicketless and also was very expensive to his standards. He gave away 52 runs in the 8 overs that he bowled.
