Australia has indeed played like the defending champions in the 2019 World Cup. The team, captained by Aaron Finch, stuttered versus India, but otherwise hasn’t put a foot wrong in the mega event. After beating Bangladesh by 48 runs, the Aussies are currently placed second in the points and another victory would almost take them to the semis. They are next scheduled to play England at the Lord’s in London.

The Three Lions have been emphatic as well, but losses to Pakistan and Sri Lanka have put their campaign in a bit of jeopardy. Placed third in the table, Eoin Morgan’s men need a win to keep themselves away from the danger of being eliminated. As far as Tuesday’s game is concerned, records are against England as they haven’t beaten the Aussies in the World Cup, since 1992, losing 5 out of 7 games.

Weather Report

The weather forecast for tomorrow’s game isn’t pleasing at least for the time being. From morning at 9 AM till the end of the day, there are chances of the heavens opening up. 70 per cent cloud cover will be there throughout and the sun won make its way out. The temperature will be around 21 and 24 degrees Celsius. The humidity will be in the 60s and 70s.

Pitch Report

The pitch at Lord’s was batting friendly in the previous match. It won’t be a surprise if the batters again have a good day in the office. However, the track is expected to assist the spinners, especially in the second half as shown by Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim. Bearing in mind the same, teams should opt to field first, get a significant score and then exert pressure on the opposition.

Playing combinations

England

Brits’ coach Trevor Bayliss said they won’t gamble on Jason Roy’s fitness in the next match after his torn hamstring. In that case, James Vince will continue to open the batting with Jonny Bairstow, who is yet to display his brutal self. Having scored 424, Joe Root has looked the most accomplished batsman in the middle order. Barring the game versus Bangladesh, he made fifty-plus scores on every other occasion.

Morgan had a tough day last time after his 148 against the Afghans and he’s needed to be on top of his game. Jos Buttler has 197 runs in the tournament, but couldn’t contribute in the last couples of games. Ben Stokes will be high on confidence following his 89 versus Lanka. In the bowling department, Jofra Archer and Mark Wood will hold the key. Adil Rashid returning to form is also a positive sign for England.

Probable XI

James Vince, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (C), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (wk), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood

Australia

The Aussies are unlikely to tinker with their winning combination. Aaron Finch and David Warner is in awe-inspiring form having gotten 447 and 396 runs respectively. Steve Smith has already scored three half-centuries and hasn’t looked much troubled. He has been a floater in the line-up and may have to bat down if the Men in Yellow get yet another sparkling start from their openers.

Glenn Maxwell has played his natural game and has an incredible strike-rate of 209.67, having scored 130 runs at an average of 32.50. Marcus Stoinis’ return from the side strain has also boosted their batting. It goes without saying that Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins have to make the regular breakthroughs. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa is also expected to be effective on a slow wicket.

Probable XI

David Warner, Aaron Finch (C), Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey (wk), Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa
