There is absolutely no stopping India. The unit, captained by Virat Kohli, won their fifth match of the 2019 World Cup, beating Windies by a mammoth margin of 125 runs at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Jason Holder’s men needed to win the game in order to stay alive in the mega event. With this drubbing, they became the third team after Afghanistan and South Africa to get knocked out.

On winning the toss and electing to bat first, India had their difficulties. However, they managed to put up a significant 268 in their 50 overs. Kemar Roach struck first blood, getting rid of Rohit Sharma early. KL Rahul threw away yet another start after scoring 48 off 64. Jason Holder ripped his poles apart. Vijay Shankar clobbered three fours and became Roach’s second victim. The fast bowler unfolded more mayhem with Kedar Jadhav’s wicket.

At the other end, Virat Kohli completed 20,000 international runs. Just when he looked good for a ton, Holder, the opposition skipper, outfoxed him with a bouncer that didn’t bounce much. Kohli ended on 72 off 82 with eight fours. After his dismissal, Hardik Pandya (46) and MS Dhoni (56) took charge and put on 70 for the sixth wicket. Dhoni was severe on Oshane Thomas, who conceded 16 runs off his final over. Sheldon Cottrell ended with a couple of wickets.

India crush the Caribbeans

Windies got off to the worst possible start as Mohammed Shami pinned both Chris Gayle and Shai Hope to put Virat’s men in the ascendancy. Sunil Ambris, who came in place of Evin Lewis, tried to put his head down with a 40-ball 31 but Pandya trapped him in front to end his stay. Thereafter, things started going downhill for the Caribbean team. Holder and Fabian Allen perished in no time. Carlos Brathwaite couldn’t replicate his magic from the last game.

Kuldeep Yadav, who hasn’t had the best of tournaments, removed Nicholas Pooran after the left-hander got a painstaking 28 off 50 balls. Shami removed the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer (18) in the 29th over to send back the last recognised batsman for the Windies. Thereafter, it was almost a matter of time before the inevitable took place. Shami bounced out Thomas in the 35th over to bring the curtains down on the one-sided affair.
