Martin Guptill scored a brisk 25 runs off only 14 balls opening the innings for his team in this tricky chase. The 32-year-old sent the ball to the ropes on four occasions – three fours and a six. However, he got a little too greedy as he tried to smash Shakib Al Hasan out the first ball which he bowled. This delivery, which was tossed up by the southpaw, was mistimed by Guptill and he holed out to the man at long-on.

Colin Munro – 3.5/10

Colin Munro played a slightly contrasting knock to that from Guptill. He hit the same number of fours and sixes and scored an identical 24 runs. However, he took 34 balls to do the same and did not have the most fluent of stays in the middle.

Kane Williamson – 6/10

The knock from Kane Williamson in this match was highly uncharacteristic. He fought hard for every run that he scored and seemed to have struggled out there in the middle. The skipper scored 40 runs off 72 balls and hit just one four. He seemed to have possibly got frustrated at one stage of his knock and went for the long hoick on the leg-side which carried straight to the fielder.

Ross Taylor – 9/10

Ross Taylor might have played an excellent knock. But the way he got out was unexpected. He tried to poke at a ball that was bowled down the leg side and ended up finding an edge. Mushfiqur Rahim took a good catch down the leg side to dismiss the batsman. The timing of Taylor’s dismissal left his team stranded in an extremely tough situation. He mustered 82 runs off 91 balls before he got out.

Tom Latham – 1/10

Tom Latham took two catches behind the stumps and was involved in a run-out. But with the bat, he bagged a four -ball duck and failed to deliver when his team needed him the most.

James Neesham – 4.5/10

Jimmy Neesham first had a torrid time with the ball where he conceded 24 runs in the 2 overs that he bowled. Although he made an important 25-run contribution with the bat, he couldn’t take his team over the line. The left-hander tried to cut loose just as the pressure was building up but holed out to the fielder at long-off.

Colin de Grandhomme – 4.5/10

Colin de Grandhomme took the most important wicket of Shakib Al Hasan with the ball. He pouched one catch and scored 15 runs off 13 balls with the bat. The all-rounder played a terrible shot and got out in the 43rd over of the game when New Zealand were still 27 runs short of a win.

Mitchell Santner – 5.5/10

Mitchell Santner was the man who delivered for his team when they were under great pressure. The southpaw scored an unbeaten 17 with the bat and picked up one wicket with the ball. He hit the winning runs for his team as well.

Matt Henry – 9/10

Matt Henry had an excellent outing in this match and picked up four wickets which helped restrict Bangladesh to 244. Two of his big wickets included that of Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Mithun. Under a high-pressure situation, he scored a very valuable 6 runs for his team.

Lockie Ferguson – 5/10

Lockie Ferguson bowled quick and hurried the Bangladesh batsmen in the match. He picked up the wicket of the dangerous Tamim Iqbal early in the innings. Towards the end of the game, when he came out to bat, he did well to defend a couple of deliveries and also managed to get a cheeky boundary which helped level the scores of both the teams.

Trent Boult – 5/10
