The Pakistan team faced a lot of criticism for their performance in the ICC World Cup 2019, as they failed to make it into the semi-finals. The team started off badly in the tournament as they were bundled out for 105 runs by Windies in their opening match. They were then beaten by India in a mega clash at Manchester and lost narrowly to Australia, despite putting up a good fight.
However, they performed amazingly well in the second half of the tournament to keep winning matches, but due to two of the big losses at the start, their net run rate suffered badly and they were dependent on India and New Zealand to beat England, for them to make it into the semis, something that didn’t happen and the Men in Green were knocked out of the tournament.
Much was said in the media about the team that was selected and presence of PCB director Wasim Khan and selector Inzamam-ul-Haq with the team in England. There were also rumors of groupism in the team and a handful of players going against captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. Overall, there were calls for Imran Khan to intervene in the country’s cricketing scene and overhaul the system.
Imran says he will give the nation a professional team for the next World Cup
The 1992 World Cup-winning captain and current PM of Pakistan, Imran Khan came into news as he had asked Sarfaraz Ahmed to bat first on winning the toss against India, but the captain did the opposite and India pummelled them into oblivion. Since then many former cricketers have called for Imran to come to the help of the country’s failing domestic cricket scene.
Now he has heard the calls for help, “After the World Cup I’ve decided that I’ll fix the Pakistan cricket team. The team you’ll see in the next World Cup, remember my words that team will be a professional team. We will fix the system & bring one in which the best talent comes forward,” told Imran Khan.

Imran Khan is on the tour of United States of America and this was a claim made by him while addressing a convention. The Pakistani team has been jolted by what happened in the ICC tournament, as they had to play very hard to even beat the likes of Afghanistan. The next big ICC assignment will be the T20 World Cup in 2020 in Australia.
