Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won a crucial toss in the second and final Test match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium against Sri Lanka on March 12 and elected to bat first. However, the hosts suffered an early setback as opener Mayank Agarwal needlessly ran himself out while attempting a non-existent single for just four runs to his name. Even Rohit did not last long either as he walked back for 15 and Hanuma Vihari followed for 31.

The onus was now on batting megastar Virat Kohli to carry out the rescue act for his side. While he did get the right kind of a start, he failed to prolong his stay at the crease and took a long walk back to the pavilion way sooner than expected as India were in total disarray having lost their top-order even before reaching the score of 100.

Virat Kohli fails once again

The batting icon scored 23 runs off 48 deliveries with the help of two boundaries and for a moment he looked set. But, that was not the case as it all ended in the 28th over of the first innings. On the third delivery of the over, offie Dhananjaya de Silva bowled a tossed-up delivery around the off stump and the ball turned awkwardly after pitching as the batter attempted to defend the ball. Unfortunately, it breached his bat and rapped him on the pads.

There was a huge appeal by the Lankans and the on-field umpire raised his finger as Virat was found plumb in front of the wicket. The 33-year-old had no choice other than to walk back to the dressing room after he was undone by an unplayable delivery and he looked utmost dejected and hurt after the dismissal.

The middle-order duo of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant would now be expected to take up the responsibility to help India in posting a challenging total on the Bengaluru wicket that is assisting the spinners with the ball turning awkwardly. The duo would be hoping to get some precious runs for the team after the tea session.
