Suryakumar Yadav was at his best during the third T20I against West Indies on Sunday (February 20) as he tormented Caribbean bowlers for fun. Coming to bat at number five, the dasher went after the bowlers from the outset and put up a six-hitting exhibition at the Eden Gardens. He remained unbeaten on 65 off 31 deliveries as India posted 184/5  in their allotted 20 overs, eventually winning the contest by 17 runs.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar’s celebrations were as stylish as his shot-making. After breaching the 50-run landmark, the right-handed batter raised his bat towards the dug-out to acknowledge appreciation from his teammates. While head coach Rahul Dravid gave him a standing ovation, skipper Rohit Sharma seemed highly delighted with Suryakumar’s performance. The 31-year-old acknowledged their gestures by folding his hands and doing the ‘namaste’ celebration. The video of the same went viral in no time.

Suryakumar Yadav named Player of the Series

Meanwhile, this series held great significance for Suryakumar as he was selected ahead of the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Hooda. He made most of the opportunity and took India to a 3-0 clean sweep. Alongside receiving the Player-of-the-Match award, he was also named the Player of the Series. With the T20 World Cup taking place later this year in Australia, Suryakumar’s ability to score under pressure regularly are great signs for the Men in Blue.

Meanwhile, the dasher, after the game, revealed that scoring big runs in end overs has been one of the team’s prime focus. “Just wanted to replicate what I did in the first game. Needed someone to stay there after Rohit got out and get the team to a defendable total. We had a long chat in the team meeting as to how we are going to react under immense pressure and it came out very well,” said Suryakumar after the game.

“I just try to keep things simple. Being a little harsh on yourself in the nets, don’t hit every ball wildly and have some quality sessions. Excited for the next series,” he added.
