Team India is all set to go through a hectic overseas schedule 2017 onwards unlike last year where they enjoyed a long stretched home season. Two of the most prominent challenges that India will face is that from the Proteas in late this year and from England in June 2018. Sri Lanka will also tour India in November-December this year but that would not have any effect on the South Africa tour.

The main story:

India agreed to take part in the Independence cup earlier this year in January which would feature three other teams in the name of hosts Sri Lanka, South Africa and Pakistan. However, Cricbuzz states that the series will be turned into a tri-series with Bangladesh as the replacement. The Independence cup will take place to mark the 70th independence day of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is expected to play three Tests, five One-Day Internationals and one Twenty20 International in India, though the schedule is yet to be confirmed. The tour was scheduled to take place in the month of January, but the proposal of the Independence up will now see a change in proceedings. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reschedule the India series.

“The Sri Lanka tour to India has been brought forward from February next year because we are hosting the tri-nation Independence Cup during that period,” Ashley de Silva, Sri Lanka Cricket CEO, said on Saturday (July 29).

De Silva also confirmed that the BCCI has approved their request to shift the India series. “Sri Lanka was due to tour India from February end to the first week of April next year and the dates would have clashed with the Independence Cup. That’s why we requested the Indian board for a change to bring the tour forward and they have agreed.” He concluded.
