Indian bidders showed a keen interest in South Africa’s proposed T20 Global Destination League with 35 percent expression of interest, second only to the hosts South Africa, which showed 39 percent expression of interest.

According to Cricket South Africa, in a statement issued on Wednesday, more than 150 expressions of interest were received from all over the world including the USA, UK and UAE who all showed significant interest in bidding, before Friday’s deadline expired.

“We are very encouraged by the extent of the interest shown by potential team owners from South Africa and the rest of the world”, said CSA chief Haroon Lorgat.

“We will now progress to the next stage where we will receive proposals to a tender from potential owners and then narrow down our search to a shortlist and then finally decide the eight team owners.”

All the persons who have showed interest in biding will be contacted and they should acquire tender documents to procede to the next stage of submitting their proposals. They have time till 15 April to submit their bids to get a chance to own one of their desired eight city teams.

Lorgat also confirmed that preparations in all other aspects of the league are fully underway.

“We are presently working on designing the official name and logo for the tournament and alongside this we will secure the best available international players to join our own Proteas and domestic stars, Lorgat added.

It’s crazy to note that how these domestic leagues of different nations in the last one decade, are now having a great impact on the game. From players to spectators, sponsors and investors, T20 has definitely put Cricket in a car that doesn’t have any breaks and is racing in a Formula One car.

India and South Africa have good memories of T20 when second season of Indian Premier League (IPL) was hosted by South Africa as that season coincided with the Indian General Elections (2009)  and Government of India refused to commit security by the Indain Paramiltary Forces. Adam Gilchrist lead side Deccan Chargers won that season of IPL.
