4. The History of ‘SG’ Ball in India:

History-of-Sanspareils-Greenlands-(SG)-Ball-in-India

The Sanspareils Greenlands, the manufacturer of the balls widely known as SG, will also have a moment to remember on Friday. The “Pink Balls” manufactured by them will be used for the first time ever. All the pink ball matches that have taken place in the past used the Kookaburra Pink. The manufacturer company has a history of 87 years.

Brothers Kedarnath and Dwarakanath Anand established the company in Sialkot way back in 1931 to manufacture a wide range of goods related to the sports. Post the partition of India, their family moved to Agra and an SG factory was set up in Meerut in 1950. The company remained as a cricket gear provider until the late 1980s when the “SG Ball” came into the picture.

The Sanspareils Co. manufactured handmade balls for Test cricket and got it approved by the BCCI in 1991. Since then, the SG ball became the official ball for all Test matches played on Indian soil and has been used in all domestic tournaments. A total of 72 pink balls were delivered by the SG for the inaugural day/night Test match in India.
