India have strengthened their grip on the ongoing fourth Test against England in Ahmedabad at the end of Day 2. Rishabh Pant’s century and Washington Sundar’s unbeaten fifty helped them end the day at 294/7 with a lead of 89 runs in the first innings. However, they were reeling at 146/6 at one stage and it seemed as if the visitors will eke out a crucial lead.

But it wasn’t to be as India recovered well thanks to Pant’s 101 and Sundar, batting at 60, will be looking to extend the lead on Day 3 now. He and Axar Patel are in the middle and the first session will be extremely crucial, especially for England who would love to wrap up India’s innings.

Here are all the records and stats from Day 2 of India vs England 4th Test:

36 – Total number of LBW dismissals in this series, which is the joint highest in a Test series on Indian soil. There were also 36 wickets falling to LBWs during the West Indies tour of India in 1983-84.

345 – Total runs scored by Rohit Sharma in this series, who was out on 49 today. This is his second-highest aggregate in the series, after the 2019 Freedom Trophy against South Africa, where he scored 529 runs.

3 – Rohit Sharma today became the joint third-fastest player to 1000 Test runs as an opener along with Graeme Smith in 17 innings. The only ones to reach 1000 runs faster than him while opening in Tests are Herbert Sutcliffe (in 13 innings) and Len Hutton (in 16 innings).

8 – This is the eighth time Virat Kohli fell for a duck in Test cricket while leading India. This is now the joint highest number of ducks by an Indian captain in Test cricket, along with MS Dhoni. Also, the fifth time Kohli is out for a duck while captaining in a home Test, the joint highest among Indians along with MAK Pataudi.

13 – This is now the 13th duck for Virat Kohli as a captain in international matches at home, the highest along with Sourav Ganguly. MS Dhoni (11 ducks), Kapil Dev (10 ducks) and Mohammad Azharuddin (8 ducks) follow them in this list.

1972 – Virat Kohli has registered two ducks in this series so far. He is the first Indian captain with multiple ducks in a Test series being a specialist batsman, since Ajit Wadekar against England in 1972-73.

2 – Rishabh Pant becomes the first Indian and the second player to reach 500 Test runs in the year 2021, after Joe Root. It is the second time that he has crossed 500 Test runs in a calendar year, after his debut in 2018.

3 – Rishabh Pant is the third player with multiple Test hundreds against England while batting at No.6 or below. The other two are Kapil Dev and Ravi Shastri.

3 – This is the second duck for both Kohli and Gill in this series. They become the third Indian pair with multiple ducks in the same series while batting at the top-4 in the batting order. Mohinder Amarnath & Sunil Gavaskar (vs WI in 1983), SS Das & Sachin Tendulkar (vs WI in 2002) are the other Indian batting pairs to have bagged multiple ducks in the same series.
