The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released their latest set of T20I rankings for batsmen. The T20I series between India and Sri Lanka took place and there were some changes seen in the rankings. Virat Kohli, the skipper of the Men in Blue, jumped one place to the ninth spot. Kohli had a reasonable series versus the Lankans as he scored 56 runs at a strike-rate of 164.70.

In the second T20I in Indore, he stayed unbeaten on 30 after India were asked to chase down 143. In the final encounter at the MCA Stadium in Pune, he came to bat at number six. There he churned out a cameo of 26 off 17 with a couple of fours and a six. It helped Team India post 201 on the board after which the home team won by 78 runs. India also managed to win the series 2-0.

Virat Kohli 196 points shy of Babar Azam

Kohli currently has 683 rating points and is nine points shy of Hazratullah Zazai’s tally of 692 points. But the Delhi-born has plenty of progress to make if he has to overtake Babar Azam to the top of the rankings. Babar presently has 879 rating points, 196 points more than Virat. KL Rahul, the leading run-scorer versus the Lankans with 99 runs, is sixth in the list with 760 rating points.

In another update, Eoin Morgan, England’s limited-overs skipper, also went one position up the rankings table. The southpaw is placed 10th with 653 points. The Dublin-born last played T20Is in the tour of New Zealand last year. In five matches, he scored 192 runs at an average of 48, most importantly, striking at 193.93. His top score of 91 came at the McLean Park in Napier.

Dawid Malan is the only other Englishman along with Morgan in the top 10 of the rankings. Malan got three T20 tons in 2019, and is currently ranked third with 810 points. Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell form the Aussie contingent in the rankings. Colin Munro, Evin Lewis and Zazai are the other men, ruling the rankings.
