In 2019, the West Indies haven’t been at their best and played some sub-standard cricket. However, since Kieron Pollard was named the skipper, there has been a drastic change in the side. They have been doing really well and managed to stun India in their own backyard a couple of times. The team registered an 8-wicket victory in the first of the three-match ODI series in Chennai. However, former cricketer Madan Lal didn’t seem to be impressed with the team selection of the hosts for this game.

The 68-year-old World Cup-winning all-rounder lashed out at Virat Kohli and the team management for their picks. He didn’t like the idea of playing two seamers on a slow wicket which is usually conducive for the spinners. He felt that the team needs to strengthen the bowling attack if they want to win the remaining games of this series.

“But one thing which strikes me was why the Indian team have weaker the bowling attack? See in (the) past few years; the matches we have won are because of bowling. Your bowling attack has to be good because you don’t need 8, 9, 10 to bat and yesterday they played with two pacers and floater bowlers and they were expensive. If the Indian team wants to win matches then they have to strengthen bowling attack,” stated the veteran player.

It will be very tough for MS Dhoni to come into the team directly

Madan Lal was also asked about the future of former Indian captain MS Dhoni. The former cricketer felt that the ball is in the wicket-keeper’s court at the moment. He felt that the 38-year-old will be the best judge of his future. However, he warned that it won’t be easy for Dhoni to come into the team directly.

Madan Lal thinks Dhoni should start playing cricket matches soon – be it at the domestic level or any other matches. “Its Dhoni’s call to decide if he wants to play. It will be very tough to make a come in the team directly. So, he should start playing cricket; whether it’s domestic or any other matches,” he said as quoted by Times Now.
