The Test series against Windies, starting October 4, will serve as a preparation for India ahead of the Australian tour that consists of four Tests. India have picked a squad, keeping in mind the overseas tour, and left the senior opening batsmen out of the squad. The selectors opted to rest the main pacers as well who could play a key role in Australia. The Caribbean team, on the other hand, will be looking to gain some experiences playing the No.1 ranked Test team. They have roped in some new players for this Test series.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of the 2-match Test series between India and the Windies:

6 – India won each of their last six Test series they played against the Windies starting from the 2002/03. Windies’ last Test series win over India came way back in 2002 in the 5-match home series which they won 2-1.


16 – India are currently on an unbeaten 16-match streak in the Test cricket against the Windies. The last time they were defeated by the Caribbean team was way back in the 2002 Kingston Test match.


18.94 – Ajinkya Rahane’s batting average in his last 10 Test matches. The Indian Test team’s vice-captain scored only 341 runs in the 18 innings he batted in the last one year with two fifties.

40Mohammed Siraj claimed 40 wickets in only five first-class matches he played in 2018 for India ‘A’ at an average of 15.08. He bagged three wickets in all the nine innings he bowled for them.


56.72 – Prithvi Shaw, the 18-year-old has scored 1418 runs in his short career of 14 first-class matches. In those games, he averaged 56.72 with the help of seven centuries. The Mumbai batsman has scored his runs at a solid strike-rate of 76.69.

59 – Jason Holder has taken 59 wickets at an average of 22.37 in the 17 Test matches he played since the start of October 2016. In this time span, the Windies skipper also scored 805 runs at an average of 33.54.


88 – Starting from November 2017, Mayank Agarwal has scored 1584 runs across 12 matches at an average of 88. The Karnataka opener scored six hundreds and four fifties in 20 innings during this while.

1489 – Runs Virat Kohli has scored in Test cricket in the last one year. The Indian captain scored those runs in just 11 Test matches at an average of 74.45 with six centuries and five fifties in 21 innings.


1994 – The last instance of the Windies winning a Test match in India was way back in 1994 in Mohali. India won six of the eight matches they played in these 23 years against the Windies.
