Indian Government confers former India skipper MS Dhoni with Padma Bhushan

MS Dhoni has been among the most sought-after personalities in the sports fraternity. The cricketer has grown in stature as his career has progressed. Also, he has notched numerous records under his belt and has been a fulcrum of the Indian team for more than one decade. Moreover, he has gained a significant fan-base owing to his illustrious career.
The cricketer was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award, the country’s third highest civilian award back in January. Yesterday, on Tuesday, he received the prestigious civilian award. The former Indian cricketer was among the 85 eminent figures to be crowned with the award. Apart from MS Dhoni, three more figures from the sports world have been a recipient of the award.

Ace cueist Pankaj Advani was also anointed with the Padma Bhushan. Moreover, weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and Somdev Devvarman were conferred with the Padma Shri award. However, apart from the Padma Bhushan, Dhoni has previously been blessed with several other awards. In 2009, he received the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilization award.
He became the first cricketer to win the ICC ODI Player of the Year when he achieved the feat in 2008 and 2009 respectively. MS Dhoni also won the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award back in 2007. The veteran has taken India to great heights ever since took the mantle of leadership. He led India to victory in the inaugural edition of the World T20 in South Africa in 2007.
MSD also took India to the number one rankings in Tests back in 2009. Thereafter, he captained India to the World Cup title in India after 28 years. Also, he won the Champions Trophy for India in 2013, hosted by England. Recently, he also became the first wicket-keeper batsman to rack 100 stumpings in One Day Internationals.
