Now defunct Deccan Chargers (DC) led by Adam Gilchrist won this year’s title defeating Anil Kumble’s RCB by just 6 runs in Johannesburg. This particular edition of the IPL was played between April 18 and May 24 in South Africa because of general elections in India. The DC were the fourth of the four teams who qualified for the knock-outs and went on to lift the trophy.

Highest scorer: CSK’s Matthew Hayden was the highest scorer in this edition with 572 runs in 12 matches (average of 52).

Highest wicket-taker: DC’s Rudra Pratap Singh won the purple cap by taking the highst number of wickets (23) in 16 matches with the best figure of 4 for 22.

Most number of sixes: DC’s dashing opener Gilchrist hit 29 sixes in the tournament – the most by any batsman and he did so in 16 innings.

Highest individual score: RCB’s Manish Pandey scored the highest score of 114 not out in this edition. He scored it against DC and was the only Indian batsman to have hit a hundred in this edition.

Best bowling figure: RCB skipper Kumble’s 5 for 5 in 3.1 overs against RR was the best bowling figure in this edition.

Best bowling average: KKR’s Charl Langeveldt had the best bowling average of 5 in this edition as he took 3 for 15 in 4 overs in the one game that he played on home soil.

Highest team score: RR’s 211 for 4 against KXIP in Durban.

Lowest team score: RR’s 58 all out against RCB in Cape Town.

Biggest victory (by runs): CSK beat RCB by 92 runs in Port Elizabeth. MI also beat KKR by 92 runs in the same venue.

Smallest victory (by runs): KXIP beat DC by 1 run in Johannesburg.

Player of the series: DC skipper Adam Gilchrist was adjudged the man of the series with 495 runs and 18 dismissals behind the stumps.
