Kolkata appeared as one of the favourites to lift the cup at the start of the season, but what unfolded after their first four games was six losses on a trot. They have three more games to go, out of which two are against Mumbai. Kolkata’s head to head record against Mumbai doesn’t suggest a good signal for them.

They have been able to beat Mumbai only five times in 23 meets. The two teams will meet for the 24th time in the tournament history on Sunday evening at the Eden Gardens. Mumbai are currently on top of the points table, and will hope to consolidate that position by making the most of Kolkata’s weak bowling. Here is all you need to read for both the teams before picking your Fantain and Dream11 list.

Team News –

Mumbai

Beuran Hendricks joined the Mumbai camp ahead of their previous game against Chennai. It is unlikely that Rohit Sharma will make any other changes to the side because it makes no sense to tweak the winning combination.

Likely playing XI – Quinton de Kock (wk), Rohit Sharma (C), Evin Lewis, Suryakumar Yadav, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Anukul Sudhakar Roy, Rahul Chahar, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah.

Kolkata

Kolkata experimented in a lot of ways in their previous game against Rajasthan. Kuldeep was dropped for the last two games but expect him to make a return for this one.

Likely playing XI – Chris Lynn, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik (C & wk), Sunil Narine, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Piyush Chawla, Yarra Prithviraj, Kuldeep Yadav/Prasidh Krishna, Matt Kelly/Carlos Brathwaite.

Fantain XI

Wicket-keeper – Quinton de Kock

Batsmen – Nitish Rana, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Evin Lewis,

All-Rounders – Andre Russell, Hardik Pandya

Bowlers – Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Lasith Malinga

Captain and vice-captain options:

Quinton de Kock – Quinton de Kock has been the most consistent batsman for Mumbai this year and one of the driving forces behind Mumbai currently being on top of the points table. With Kolkata’s bowling being poor, the wicketkeeper-batsman looks good for other big innings and is thus a good choice for your Fantain captain.

Hardik Pandya – Game after game, the younger of the Pandya brothers has been proving his finishing skills. Once again, he will like to go for big shots on the batting-friendly Eden pitch and is a good option for your Fantain vice-captain.

Andre Russell could also be a good option for the vice-captain slot, provided the batsman is promoted on the batting order and doesn’t come out to bat very late. Lasith Malinga vs Russell could be an interesting battle to watch out for.

Dream11 prediction

Suggested Playing XI No.1 for Head to Head/ Small Leagues:

All-Rounders – Hardik Pandya, Sunil Narine (VC), Andre Russell

Bowlers – Lasith Malinga, Rahul Chahar, Yarra Prithviraj.

Fantasy tip – Yarra Prithviraj is not one of the costliest players but proved on his debut against the Sunrisers that he can be very lethal on his day. The pacer did not have a good day against Rajasthan but expect him to come back stronger against Mumbai.

WicketKeeper – Dinesh Karthik (VC)

Batsmen – Rohit Sharma (C), Chris Lynn, Nitish Rana, Shubman Gill

All-Rounders – Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Sunil Narine

Fantasy tip –

Nitish Rana started the tournament in very good form, but couldn’t maintain it during the next few games until his onslaught against Bangalore in a losing cause. He was once again ineffective against Rajasthan but could bounce back to form in this do-or-die clash.
