Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has picked Pakistan’s squad for the 2021 T20 World Cup to be played in the United Arab Emirates. The veteran said that he wanted to select Mohammad Amir, but couldn’t since the pacer has already announced his retirement from international cricket.

Inzamam said that Amir’s experience would have done wonders to the Pakistan squad in the tournament. The veteran urged the fast bowler to reconsider his decision to retire and also asked him to raise his concerns with the current team management.

“Mohammad Amir could also have been considered. But he has actually announced his retirement. There could have been some experience in the fast-bowling department. But it shouldn’t be like I won’t play for this management.

“You can get your concerns recorded; you can share the issues with the Board. You could have tried playing after that. It is a different matter if you don’t want to play, it is your decision,” Inzamam said on his YouTube channel.

Inzamam-ul-Haq backs Shoaib Malik to come good

Inzamam also went for Shoaib Malik, who hasn’t played any international cricket since the last year. Malik is currently plying his trade for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2021 CPL.

“You have tried Haider (Ali), Azam Khan and a lot of others in the middle-order, but no one has scored. The middle-order is an important position. Shoaib Malik is a senior player. If he does the job for you till the World Cup, he should be considered for sure,” he added.

One of the notable omissions in Pakistan’s lineup was that of Fakhar Zaman. Inzamam said that although Zaman has done well in ODIs, his performances in T20Is haven’t been all that great. Moreover, he said that Sharjeel Khan could have been one of the greatest T20 players had he not been banned.

Inzamam also picked Shan Masood as he reckoned that the latter plays smart cricket and gets his runs through calculative strokes. Masood has done well for the Multan Sultans in the last two seasons of the PSL.

Here’s Inzamam-ul-Haq’s squad

Babar Azam, Sharjeel Khan, Shan Masood, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Usman Qadir, Faheem Ashraf, Hassan Ali, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jr., Shaheen Afridi
