It is a renowned fact that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is a high-octane event full of cut-throat competition. There are batsmen who nick the ball and refuse to take a walk back to the dug-out while fielders claim catches they grass. But there were some events in this edition of the tournament which surprised one and all, winning hearts of everyone inside and outside of cricketing fraternity.

These acts reminded us that the spirit of cricket did not disappear in this new age of competitive cricket and created definitive examples illustrating the proper manner to play the Gentlemen’s game. Here are five instances which stood out even with wickets flying around, acrobatic catches being taken and batsmen hitting the ball out of the stadiums.

1. Suresh Raina consoling Rishabh Pant after he missed out on his ton

Even though there were 60 hard fought matches in the tournament which had massive sixes, hattricks, last ball thrillers, IPL 2017 will always be remembered for the gesture Suresh Raina made after Rishabh Pant missed out on a ton against Gujarat Lions at Ferozshah Kotla. Rishabh Pant stunned the entire cricketing fraternity with his blitzkrieg with the bat as he smashed all the bowlers out of the ground to make a mockery out of the target.

Chasing a mammoth target of 208, Rishabh Pant scored an explosive 97 off just 43 balls smashing a whopping 9 sixes and four boundaries, he was all set to score his maiden IPL ton before he nicked one to the keeper off Thampi’s bowling. The disappointment was evident in his body language as he was not ready to absorb the reality. Suresh Raina came up to Pant and lauded his effort by tapping his face and chest to register a long-lasting memory in everyone’s mind.
