When they say catches win matches. They are not wrong. But, that is not what good fielding is all about. Good fielding sees how many runs are saved and the commitment that is generally shown. It is an all-around effort and something that has been evident in the IPL 2016. The fielding has also had an injection of ‘youthful exuberance’ apart from the all-round improvement in the fielding in the recently concluded edition of the IPL. Here is a list of the top 5 fielders in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League.

1. AB de Villiers – 19 catches:

AB de Villiers is one of the best fielders in the world. He does not run at the speed of light to stop the ball going to the fence. Instead, he glides across the blades of grass to stop the ball from reaching the fence. In addition, he does it at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, a cricketing venue that has the reputation as being one of the smallest stadiums in the country. Although he hasn’t been involved in many run-outs this season, de Villiers has the best catching record with 19 catches to his name.
