IPL 2017 auction to be held in Bangalore

The auction of the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to kick start on April 5. Ahead of the season the players released by franchises and those freshly in contention have been placed in the list of players who will go under the hammer. After speculations, the IPL governing council issued press release on IPLT20.com stating, “The IPL 2017 Player Auction will be held on Monday, 20 February 2017, at the Ritz-Carlton, Bengaluru.”

As many as 750 players have been registered for the auction thus far and the teams will have an option to pick maximum 27 players with a cap of 9 on the overseas recruits. The total monetary capacity the auction will start with is INR 143.33 crores.

“The IPL franchises will go into the player auction with a maximum of INR 143.33 Crs purse for 2017 season. The teams can have a maximum of 27 players including 9 overseas players. A maximum of 76 players, including 28 overseas, can be bought at the auction.”

The date for the IPL 2017 auction is 20 February which was the same date on which it was held for the very first time almost a decade ago in 2008. “So far, more than 750 players have registered for the Player Auction 2017. The deadline for player registration ends today, February 3, 2017. Interestingly, the first IPL Player auction in the year 2008 was also held on February 20, 2008.”

After the conclusion of the player auction, a workshop has been organised for the franchises on February 21 in Bengaluru.
