The ninth season of IPL was one of the fairy tales for the champions Sunrisers Hyderabad. All the teams with big names were considered as favourites but this team led by David Warner and not with many big names in World cricket rose to the top defeating the star-studded Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Going into the auction there was little reason for them to change their winning combination from last year. Unlike other franchises who went for the likes of Ben Stokes, Tymal Mills and other big names, Sunrisers were calculated and strategic during the auction. Less fancied players like Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Siraj among others were bought by the franchise. Though, they spent a whopping INR 4.2 crores on Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan and he was their costliest buy. Hyderabad was lucky to get the players like off-spinner Nabi, death overs specialist Chris Jordan for their respective base prices.

The SRH squad doesn’t have too many superstars but they have the quality to match up the other teams in the competition. This gives us an opportunity to analyse the playing XI of Sunrisers Hyderabad for this season of Indian Premier League.

Here we analyze the best possible XI for the Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Openers

There is no doubt about the credentials of David Warner as an opener. He is very destructive as he has so often displayed across all formats of the game and T20 just merits his natural way of batting. Warner was brilliant last season as he scored 848 runs at an impressive average of 60.57 and was third in terms of strike rate only behind Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers. Sunrisers will hope Warner continues his scintillating form this year as well to defend the coveted title.

Shikhar Dhawan, India’s out of form and injury prone opener, will partner Warner at the top of the order. Dhawan has not had the best of the seasons at home this year as for most of the part he has been injured and hasn’t contributed much since his comeback in the domestic circuit. Though, no team could afford to count him down as he aggregated over 500 runs last year in the IPL.

Also this is a great opportunity for Dhawan to get back into the form before ICC Champions Trophy which will commence only 10 days post the completion of the league.
