The former Indian captain is a still one of the best players in the world in the limited-overs format. While he has stepped down from captaincy for the national team, his leadership qualities can’t be doubted. Virat Kohli always seeks advice from him in the ODIs and T20Is. Dhoni has been the captain in 9 of the 10 seasons of the IPL, as in the last season, Pune replaced him with Steve Smith.

Dhoni was the most expensive player in the inaugural auction of the IPL. He was bought by Chennai Super Kings, and it fair to say that he repaid the faith. He had 8 successful seasons with the franchise before it was suspended by the SC for 2 years.

He played for Rising Pune Supergiant in that time and reached final last season. Considering his brand value and utility, a bid in the region of Rs. 20 crores would have been required to sign him whereas at present he has signed up with the yellow team for Rs. 15 crore.
