Having won five of their first six games, not many would have thought that Kings XI Punjab won’t make it the playoffs. Things took a drastic turn as from topping the tables, the team ended up languishing at the bottom of the points table, just above the Delhi Daredevils.
They lost five consecutive games, in the end, to be eliminated. The batting order was stupendous with the presence of Chris Gayle and KL Rahul. However, that was it as the other batsmen failed to make any kind of difference in the middle order. It was a horrid season altogether.
Whether it was Mayank Agarwal’s indifferent form or Karun Nair’s inconsistency, everything went against favour for them. Adding to that, it was sadder to watch all-rounder Yuvraj Singh fading away in this season and also getting dropped eventually.
The overseas players too failed to provide justice to their inclusion. Aaron Finch began his IPL campaign with two ducks and there’s no doubt, his performances hurt Punjab’s prospects. The Australian T20 skipper was a huge disappointment throughout the tournament.
As their campaign got over, Aaron Finch had a long Instagram post. While he was filled with gratitude to the Kings XI Punjab, he conceded that they could’ve done better. He further took responsibility and vowed that the franchise would step up next time and even win the IPL.
Here’s what he posted on Instagram
Flying home to Melbourne! Thank you so much to everyone involved at @kxipofficial for the last couple of months, it truly was a privilege to represent this great franchise! I know results didn’t go our way and I take full responsibility for that as an experienced overseas players’, but we tried our hearts out. We have a wonderful group of players, staff and owners who will be even more determined to reach the playoffs and win the @iplt20 next season.
