Abhishek Nayar was recently spotted donning the commentary role in the current edition of the IPL. The Mumbai all-rounder has joined the support staff of the KKR. Many were unsure about his role in the support staff, the 34-year-old clarified that he will work with youngsters. Former Mumbai Indians star said that KKR needed someone who can help youngsters in tackling the pressure. Abhishek Nayar has no dearth of experience, he played 99 first-class games, while he represented India in 3 ODIs. The left-handed batsman has played 60 matches in the first seven seasons of the league.

“I will be working with the younger guys to kind of bridge the gap between them and the foreign players. My role will be to make them comfortable and ensure there is no communication gap. I think the franchise needed someone just to counsel the younger guys and help them tackle pressure. All in all, just look after them,” he told Sportstar on Sunday.

Relationship with Dinesh Karthik

Abhishek Nayar has a good relationship with the KKR captain Dinesh Karthik. The KKR captain admitted that Nayar had helped him in clearing his self-doubt and insecurity. He was asked if Karthik helped him in getting the job, to this he replied that KKR CEO Venky Mysore should know the answer to this question.

Abhishek Nayar admitted that it won’t be easy for him to change things instantly. He feels it will take him time to build relationships as he has never met them before.

“It is not that I am going to walk around and things are going to change. It takes time to build relationships, so it’s going to take me time as I have never interacted with the guys. I am looking forward to the challenge and to start the right kind of building that is needed,” he suggested, while on his way to Kolkata.
