The Rajasthan Royals (RR) were required to win their last league match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who had won three matches on the trot. The Royals were without the services of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes, and hence, were deemed to be a depleted side. However, instead of getting bogged down, the team stood up to the task and won by 30 runs.
Rahul Tripathi played a masterful hand of 80 runs from 58 balls with five boundaries and three sixes. He ensured that the Royals posted a competitive total for Virat Kohli’s men to trace down on a relatively slower wicket at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Following the victory, Ajinkya Rahane was all praises for the opener and applauded him for the match-winning knock for his team.
Rahane’s support for Tripathi
He also appreciated the rest of the members for their collective efforts in the home team’s victory over the in-form RCB. “I am happy and every captain and team management wants that in difficult situations team members should stand up and perform. It was a perfect night for us where we played as a team,” Rahane said.
“We know Rahul is a quality player and we back him. We know he can play under pressure. He did not play well in his last few innings but he has tremendous talent. I think he will go up from here. His innings and also the little cameo from Heinrich Klaasen (32 off 21 balls) in middle overs where it is difficult to bat were magnificent efforts,” the RR skipper added while elaborating Rahul’s efforts.
The Royals don’t have any more match remaining in the league stage. They will now have to depend on the results of the other two matches on Sunday, which will decide their fate in the championship. Along with RR, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) are also competing for the fourth position in the points table.
