IPL 2018: Anil Kumble thinks one of the teams will target Harbhajan Singh and name him the skipper

Harbhajan Singh is a fierce competitor. He has been at the top of his game for a better part of two decades now. Harbhajan has done well for the Men in Blue as well as Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His franchise decided against retaining the veteran and now they can’t even use an RTM for him. That makes him a key player up for grabs in the IPL 2018 Auction.

Bhajji’s former bowling partner Anil Kumble has a better understanding of players than most. He has coached the Indian team and has seldom misread a player’s ability. Kumble was talking on the show ‘Game Plan – The marquee List’ which airs on Star Sports. He said many nice things about the veteran off-spinner and was supportive of him throughout his talk.

He could be KXIP’s captain

The 37-year-old is one of the most experienced cricketers in India right now. He might not be playing for the Indian national cricket team but has served Indian cricket from the turn of the century. And that is the kind of experience which can never be neglected, Anil Kumble said the same on the show. He also said that his fearless nature and his ability to control the game is still intact.

“I think he still has consistency. He may not be picking wickets like what he used to but he is economical. In terms of what he can offer, it’s definitely control. Irrespective of whether he has been playing, with all the experience he has, he still has control and he will deliver,” said Kumble.

The former Indian coach went on to state that the Punjab man can be KXIP’s captain. He also added that the team can revolve around him and Axar Patel. With his bowling talent, Harbhajan can swing the bat as well. He is currently the captain of the Punjab team in the domestic circuit and doing a good job as the captain.

“He [Harbhajan] could be the potential captain for Kings XI Punjab. They already have Axar Patel, so Axar and Bhajji can be two spinners with whom they can revolve the bowling attack around. His batting is certainly sometimes an asset. You never know when he can come and change the game. He is fearless, he brings that to his game as well, which I think Punjab need,” he concluded.
