The highly anticipated mega auctions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) went underway on Saturday in Bengaluru as the franchises looked set to overhaul their squads. The first session was dominated by the Indian players as they  garnered huge amounts. But it was Ben Stokes who ruled the charts much like the last year and undoubtedly is the most expensive player so far of the event. He was snapped up by Rajasthan Royals for Rs. 12.5 Crores and will once again play under the leadership of Steve Smith.

The most surprising incident though was no bids for Chris Gayle who recently lit up Bangladesh Premier League by scoring two sensational centuries in the knockouts. Even the likes of Murali Vijay, James Faulkner, Joe Root and Hashim Amla couldn’t attract any bids from any of the eight franchises. However, they also went aggressively for few players which went in favour of  the players.

Indian players ruling the auction

KL Rahul and Manish Pandey are the most expensive Indian players who garnered a whopping amounts of Rs. 11 Crore from Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively. The other star Indian players like R Ashwin and Gautam Gambhir also found new teams this year and would look to play well for them. Kedar Jadhav was the most surprising element as Chennai Super Kings were keen on buying him and bid aggressively for him. He will now play for them and earn Rs. 7.8 Crore which is the most among the first set of all-rounders.

While Chris Lynn went back for KKR after an intense bidding war, Aaron Finch was snapped up by KXIP. Chris Woakes, Colin de Grandhomme and Moeen Ali all will play for RCB in the upcoming season as they looked keen on buying all-rounders. Sunrisers Hyderabad smartly bought Carlos Brathwaite and Yusuf Pathan for decent amounts and were happy over the way auctions went for them so far.

Delhi Daredevils too were up for the challenge and went for Jason Roy and Colin Munro who were easy picks for them comparatively. While CSK used their Right to Match (RTM) card for one of the best death bowling all-rounders going around Dwayne Bravo. Yuvraj Singh could only attract a solitary bid and was sold at a base price to Punjab franchise.
