IPL 2018 Auctions: Murali Karthik befuddled to see Dale Steyn going unsold

The IPL 2018 auctions is making all the headlines in the cricket world since the last couple of days. The biggest cricketing stars are up for grabs at the mega auctions of arguably the most popular T20 league in the world. While many people are enjoying the auctions, former Indian cricketer Murali Karthik seems to be a little upset with how things have panned out in the last few hours at the auctions.

More than being upset, it seems that Karthik is befuddled with how the franchises are missing the trick by not picking up some of the veterans of the game. The first surprise of the IPL 2018 auctions arrived pretty soon on the first day of the auctions. Chris Gayle, the big Jamaican, who has all the coveted T20 records to his name went unsold. When Gayle’s name was announced, no franchise showed interest in buying him.

It indeed was a big surprise considering the fact that Gayle had recently played a vital role for his BPL franchise Rangpur Riders at the BPL this season. His phenomenal form should have fetched him some deal. But 120 seconds of awkwardness followed as no team raised bids for Gayle.

Something similar perspired when a marquee bowler was up for grab at the auctions. Premier South African pace bowler Dale Steyn went unsold. Steyn is revered as one of the finest bowlers in world cricket. Albeit he is injury-prone, which possibly could have been the reason for the teams not buying him, he could still have been a cheat deal at his base price.

When Dale Steyn went unsold, Murali Karthik could not keep his calm and ended up expressing his emotions on the social media. He went on to exclaim his reactions on the episode. Karthik quoted that he just cannot comprehend how things are panning out at the IPL auctions.
