The IPL 2018 auctions seemed to have panned out the way Mumbai Indians wanted it to go for their side. The defending champions went in to the auctions with a plan and have managed to cover up their bases well. Their owner, Nita Ambani, looked all smiles after the auctions got over. She expressed her happiness at the picks they made during the course of the two-day mega auctions.
As per the quotes in an NDTV report, Nita Ambani exclaimed that the mega auctions are always tiring. They are quite a serious affair not only physically but also emotionally. Many beloved players of the franchises move out to the other camps and this can actually get a little emotional for the team management. Among all the picks that the Mumbai Indians made, the MI owner expressed special satisfaction over getting back the services of JP Duminy.
The veteran South African cricketer was a part of the Mumbai Indians family a few seasons ago. He was then moved to the other franchises. And now, he finds himself to be back with MI camp. The MI think tank consider themselves very lucky to get the services of JP Duminy at his base price. Nita Ambani stressed on the fact that it is always a nice feeling to get the players back who have played for the team before.
Commenting on the strategies the Mumbai Indians went ahead with at the auctions, the MI camp managed to get like for like replacements in their squad. Last year, they had seen and Indian southpaw and a West Indies batter open the innings for them. While they did not stick to the same combination of players, they managed to get players with similar styles of play this time around. For Parthiv Patel-Lendl Simmons, they fetched Ishan Kishan-Evin Lewis.
Similarly, they took a bold step by not retaining the services of Lasith Malinga, a core member of their group for years. Instead, they went ahead Mustafizur Rahman and Pat Cummins in the pace bowling department. Nita Ambani and the rest of the Mumbai camp certainly had their homework done ahead of the auctions.
