The 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League promises to be a big affair. It is set to surpass all previous editions in terms of popularity, many believe. The IPL 2018 auctions are a prime example of how popular the event is eventually going to be. Heading in to the auctions, the Sunrisers Hyderabad made some very smart choices among all franchises. Head coach Tom Moody played a vital role in making those choices.
It is worth noting the Tom Moody and his management have often sprung up surprises at the IPL auctions. Last year, they had created ripples with their Afghanistani selections – Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi. The move clicked very well as well. Rashid went on to become a hot property in the tournament.
And this year, they have again gone ahead with some unconventional choices. Among the various talented cricketers they roped in – from buying Yusuf Pathan to retaining Rashid Khan – all moves seemed to be very prudent. The Sunrisers Hyderabad also managed to fetch the services of veteran Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib-al-Hasan.
Shakib had served the Kolkata Knight Riders for a period of 7 years. In the IPL 2018 auctions, Shakib had set a base price of INR 1 crore. He was bought by the Sunrisers camp for INR 2 crore. Impressed with the buy, head coach Tom Moody expressed his happiness over inclusion of Shakib on the SRH roster. As per the quotes in bdcrictime, Moody cited that Shakib can turn the game for his side on a given day.
“Shakib is a world class cricketer. He has the ability to turn the match around in any situation. Though he is good with the bat, but he doesn’t get enough importance as a batsman. I am very happy to get him in my team,” quoted Tom Moody.
While SRH managed to get one Bangladeshi on their roster, they failed to get back their pace sensation of victorious 2016 campaign, Mustafizur Rahman. Rahman was bought by the Mumbai Indians. Previously, Mohammad Ashraful has been the other Bangladeshi player to have played for the Mumbai Indians in the tournament history.
