The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have recently been dealt with a massive blow when their home games have been shifted the MA Chidambaram Stadium to the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune. The Chepauk hosted one game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), but protests surrounding the Cauvery Water Dispute (CWD) turned out to be a massive detriment.

However, despite the move, the passion of the supporters in Chennai didn’t die down, which was heartening, to say the least. Subsequently, the franchise arranged an entire train by the name of Whsitlepodu Express for the supporters. Recently, Kasi Vishwanathan, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CSK said the step as a tribute to the ardent supporters in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda.

The heartfelt gesture by CSK

“Without the fans, Chennai Super Kings are nothing. This is the least we can do for the fans who are loyal to us. So, we decided to make prior arrangements for the fans to go all the way to Pune and watch their team play. There were over 10000 fans to see the team train for the IPL before the tournament started and we expected at least 1000 people to board the train to Pune” he revealed.

Apart from the train, complimentary match tickets have also been distributed among the fans along with free accommodation and food. The CEO, during his interview, thanked the Southern Railways for making the arrangements. Also, he mentioned their plans of organizing the same for the remainder of the Pune games for CSK.

“The inaugural train journey was flagged off by Mr. Rakesh Singh, Executive President, India Cements Ltd, our sponsor. CSK management wishes to thank the Southern Railways for arranging a special train. CSK wishes to organise similarly for all its home games in Pune for fans from Chennai to travel and witness the matches in Pune subject to availability of trains,” he added.
