The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is into the playoffs round and four matches remain in the tournament. The Delhi Daredevils (DD) finished as the cellar dwellers of the event. They managed to win their last couple of matches, but couldn’t save themselves from finishing at the bottom of the points table with five wins from 14 matches.
However, their woes haven’t seen an end this season. As per reports in Times Now, the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cautioned the franchise for bringing cheerleaders to a celebrity golf tournament dinner. The party was held in Gurugram prior to Delhi’s match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi.
ACU’s stern words
They haven’t lodged a complaint and will be mentioning the same in the IPL feedback report. Previously, the cheerleaders were used to be invited in IPL post-match parties, but following the suspension of CSK and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) back in 2015, the tradition was scrapped. The warning was to reiterate that anyone other than the cricketing fraternity wasn’t allowed to interact with the cricketers.
“These girls were invited. It was not that the cricketers were partying with these girls. The cheerleaders arrived, attended the dinner and left. However, the ACU has warned the team to ensure such a thing doesn’t happen again,” an ACU official was quoted as saying to the media.
“Bringing cheer-girls to the party is banned as the ACU code doesn’t permit any outsider to get close to the players. Now that the team did it, ACU was alert enough to report the incident and briefed the team to avoid such situations in the future,” the source added.
Meanwhile, an official of the franchise dismissed the accusations and mentioned them as baseless. The Daredevils don’t get cheerleaders to any of the private events. If the ACU officials are unhappy, they should talk to us,” a team source iterated.
