27th March 2018- The day was set to write a new chapter in the history of Australian cricket. All eyes were on the press conference where Australian Cricket Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James Sutherland was about to declare the actions taken against the cricketers who were involved in the heinous crime of ball-tampering on the third day of the Cape Town Test.

However, to the agony of many, no major announcement on the cricketers have been made. The declarations were also set to decide their fate in the Indian Premier League. While David Warner is the skipper of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Steve Smith has previously been declared the skipper of the Rajasthan Royals. Nevertheless, while Smith stepped down from the leader’s role, Warner didn’t announce any drastic step.

The agonizing wait for Smith and Warner

During the media interaction, the CEO mentioned that due to incompletion of the investigation procedures, they are unable to reach a conclusion. However, they also mentioned that they will be releasing a sanction within twenty-four hours.  Moreover, he also mentioned that the fate of the players taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) depends on how the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) interprets the upcoming statements.

James Sutherland addressed the Australian fans as well and highly condemned the act the Aussies. Meanwhile, he also mentioned that captain Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft has been asked to return from South Africa with immediate effect. Meanwhile, Matthew Renshaw, Glenn Maxwell and Joe Burns have been announced as their replacements for the upcoming Test in Johannesburg.

Head coach Darren Lehmann vowed to resign from the role as the head coach. However, Sutherland has announced that Darren Lehmann isn’t guilty and wasn’t a part of the group which conducted the fiasco and will be serving as the coach of Australia. For the time being, the world will wait for the sanctions which will be released tomorrow.
